When is too many dogs too many? Currently, I have three dogs. Our first dog is Sugar, who is 11 years old. Then last year I thought she needed a friend, after all these years she has been fine, yet seemed lonely. We brought home Coco, who annoyed Sugar immensely. Since Sugar was annoyed, I thought Coco needed a playmate, so then two months later we brought home Theo. Theo and Coco are the best playmates and enjoy annoying Sugar. Not to worry, we give Sugar her "alone time" daily away from the pups.
When I was growing up, my family had a dog for a few years. It was a cocker spaniel named, Ragus (Sugar spelled backwards). It wasn't allowed inside the house. My parents had a dog house specially built next to our home and a fence that went around a large area for the dog run. Our dog didn't get the attention she deserved. She would bark whenever we entered the backyard with friends and we would tell her to "be quite". I would put my roller skates on and then place the leash on Ragus to take her for a run ... yet she always pulled too fast and I would ultimately fall to the ground as she ran free through the neighborhood with all the neighborhood kids chasing her to get her back to our house. After awhile my parents sat my oldest brother and me down to discuss giving Ragus away to a family that would care for her needs. I cried, my brother seemed like he could care less. We decided to take bets on how long it would take my younger brothers to realize she was gone. THREE weeks!!! The sad part was that it was one of their friends that noticed the silence of no barking when they entered the backyard and asked "where's Ragus?" Hence, Ragus went to a better home.
